About Scratch
Scratch is the world’s largest free platform for creative coding, empowering young people to design games, stories, animations, and interactive art using code. With an intuitive, visual programming language and a vibrant online community, Scratch gives kids the tools to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively – all while having fun.
Designed for ages 8–16 and used in homes, schools, libraries, and community centers around the world, Scratch is a global movement for joyful, inclusive, and curiosity-driven learning.
“Scratch lets kids imagine, make, and share on their own terms. It meets them with joy and possibility—and trusts them to lead.”
— Mitchel Resnick, MIT Media Lab & Founder of Scratch
Curiosity in Practice
At the Curiosity Convening, Scratch will serve as a case study of what it means to center curiosity, creativity, and agency in learning.
From the moment a young person opens the Scratch editor, they’re invited to ask questions, follow their interests, and experiment – whether by coding a game, animating a story, or designing something entirely new. There are no right answers or fixed outcomes. Learning unfolds through exploration, play, and self-direction.
Scratch shows what’s possible when curiosity drives learning. It offers a scalable, real-world model that helps reimagine education for the 21st century.
